Tina is video-calling her mother back home. Frank has stopped by for coffee and promised to stay out of the call.

ティナは故郷の母とビデオ通話中。コーヒーを飲みに立ち寄ったフランクは、通話には加わらないと約束している。

Mom01

Tina, there's a very tall shadow behind you. Is that Frank?

ティナ、後ろにすごく背の高い影が見えるわよ。フランクでしょ？

Tina02

He said he'd stay out of frame.

彼、画面の外にいるって言ってたのに。

Mom03

His shadow didn't. Hello, Frank!

影は映っちゃってるわよ。こんにちは、フランク！

Frank04

Good evening. Tina finished her report and ate a full dinner.

こんばんは。ティナは報告書を仕上げて、夕食もしっかり食べました。

Tina05

Frank! Not the dinner report again. You promised not to join the call.

フランク！また夕食の報告？通話には加わらない約束でしょ。

Mom06

Your aunt asked me last week if he was your boyfriend.

先週、おばさんに「あの子はティナの彼氏なの？」って聞かれたわ。

Tina07

He's my friend, Mom. Nothing more.

彼は友達よ、お母さん。それ以上の関係じゃないわ。

Frank08

I'll... go make the coffee.

僕は……コーヒーを淹れてきます。

Mom09

I told her you're friends. What worries me is whether you have someone to call when things go wrong.

おばさんにも友達だって言ったわよ。私が心配なのは、困ったときに連絡できる人がいるかどうかなの。

Tina10

I do. After a bad day at work, I knock on his door. He listens.

いるわよ。仕事で嫌なことがあった日は、彼の部屋のドアをノックするの。話を聞いてくれるわ。

Mom11

Then thank him for me. I'm glad you're not facing everything alone.

それなら、お母さんからもありがとうって伝えて。一人で何もかも抱え込んでいなくて、安心したわ。

Tina12

I will — when he comes back with the coffee.

うん。コーヒーを持って戻ってきたら伝えるわ。

Frank13

You're welcome. ...I'm still off camera, so this doesn't count, does it?

どういたしまして。……画面には映っていないので、参加したことにはなりませんよね？

“He said he'd stay out of frame.”

Frame is the camera's visible area. Out of frame means outside it; off camera in line 13 has the same meaning. Frank promised to remain unseen, but his tall shadow enters the picture. Tina's mother's reply that the shadow is visible creates the humor.
