Narrator

Tina visits Frank with a gift bag. She takes out a navy jacket and holds it up for him.

Tina01

I bought you a jacket. Want to try it on?

Frank02

Thanks, but I don't want anything that stands out.

Tina03

It's plain navy. No bright patterns, I promise.

Frank04

People would still notice. I always wear the same jacket.

Tina05

They might just say, "Nice jacket." I think it'll look good on you.

Frank06

All right. But I'm only trying it indoors today.

Tina07

That's fine. Here, put it on.

Frank08

Oh. It's softer than my old one.

Tina09

Can you move your arms comfortably?

Frank10

Yes. It's... fine. Nothing special.

Tina11

Then shall I put it back in the bag?

Frank12

Not yet. I need to test the pockets.

Tina13

Of course. Very serious research.

WORDS & CONTEXT

Words & context

“The Outfit Intervention”

An intervention traditionally gathers friends or family to urge someone with a problem such as addiction to seek help. The title humorously exaggerates Tina's attempt to change Frank's habit of wearing the same jacket.

“Thanks, but I don't want anything that stands out.”

Stand out means to be noticeable. It can positively describe excellence or, as here, unwanted attention. Frank does not want clothes that attract notice.

“I think it'll look good on you.”

Look good on someone is a standard compliment about how clothes or a hairstyle suit them. Notice that on you identifies the wearer. It suits you. has the same meaning, though look good on you is more common conversationally.
