Narrator

Tina is back at the counselor's office. She's sitting on the couch with a family photo open on her phone.

Counselor01

What would you like to talk about today?

Tina02

My sister sent this family dinner photo. Seeing everyone together made me feel lonely.

Counselor03

Have you told your friends?

Tina04

One said, "Just visit home!" But it's too far for a quick trip.

Counselor05

How did you respond?

Tina06

I laughed and changed the subject. I do that with my friends.

Counselor07

Is there anyone you can tell how you really feel?

Tina08

Frank. He listens when I say I miss my family.

Counselor09

Could you share a little with another close friend?

Tina10

Maybe. I could say, "I'm feeling homesick. Could you just listen?"

Counselor11

We can practice here first, if you'd like.

Tina12

I'd like that. You don't rush me to cheer up.

Tina13

And this couch never says, "Just visit home!"

WORDS & CONTEXT

Words & context

“You don't rush me to cheer up.”

Cheer up means to become happier. Rush me to cheer up means to pressure someone to feel better quickly. Friends may jump to encouragement without first listening; Tina appreciates that the counselor does not hurry her feelings.
