Narrator

Tina has lost her phone and all her photos were on it. Frank is trying to help her think it through.

Tina01

Frank, I lost my phone, and all my photos were on it!

Frank02

Okay, let's think carefully. Have you checked the bus stop?

Tina03

I've searched everywhere I went today. Everywhere!

Frank04

Try calling your number from my phone right now.

Tina05

It goes straight to voicemail. It's gone forever.

Frank06

Let's check if your photos are backed up in the cloud.

Tina07

The cloud? Which one? There are so many up there.

Frank08

Not those clouds, Tina. You can save copies of your photos on the internet.

Tina09

Oh. ...Earth keeps using one word for two things.

あら。…

Frank10

Sit down. We'll check online first. The sky can wait.

WORDS & CONTEXT

Words & context

“It goes straight to voicemail.”

Voicemail records phone messages. Go straight to voicemail means a call reaches it immediately without ringing, suggesting the phone is off or out of signal range.

“Let's check if your photos are backed up in the cloud.”

Check if ... means to find out whether something is so, and back up means to make a copy of data. Be backed up describes data that has a copy saved somewhere else. Here the cloud means online storage. Frank does not say the photos are definitely saved; he suggests checking whether copies exist. Tina takes cloud to mean the clouds in the sky.

“save copies of your photos”

Save means to store, and copies of your photos means duplicates of the pictures. Frank explains that copies of photos can be kept on the internet, not only on the phone. At this point, they do not yet know whether Tina's photos were actually saved.

“The sky can wait.”

... can wait means something can be dealt with later; it is not urgent now. Taking up Tina's mix-up about clouds, Frank lightly jokes that they should check her photos online before worrying about the sky. He is not really planning to search the sky later.
