Fourth draft. The doctor asked thirty-one questions. I've answered thirty.

Which one's giving you trouble?

"When will you visit?" He's like a father to me, but I'm nervous about seeing him.

「いつ会いに来るのか」。僕には父親みたいな人なんだけど、会うとなると緊張するんだ。

What worries you?

I don't know what I'd say face to face. In a letter, I can rewrite every sentence.

顔を合わせたら、何を話せばいいか分からなくて。手紙なら、一文ずつ何度でも書き直せるけど。

You could tell him you're nervous, but you do want to see him. You don't have to promise a date.

緊張しているけれど、会いたい気持ちはあるって伝えたら？日程まで約束する必要はないわ。

"I want to see you. I'm nervous about visiting, so I can't promise a date yet." Does that sound like a refusal?

「会いたいと思っています。ただ、訪ねるのは緊張するので、いつ行けるかはまだ約束できません」。これじゃ、断ってるように聞こえないかな？

Tina09

I don't think so. You're saying you want to visit, even though you're not ready yet. I'd put that at the end.

私はそうは思わないわ。まだ心の準備はできていなくても、会いたいとは伝えているもの。最後に書くといいんじゃない？

His letter asks about meals, so I wrote half a page about soup. Should the visit come after that?

手紙にあった食事についての質問には、スープの話を半ページ書いたんだ。訪問の話はその後に？

Yes, but one sentence about soup will do.

ええ。でも、スープの話は一文で十分よ。

All right. I'll put the visit last. Should I number all thirty-one answers?
