Clerk01

Good morning. May I see your driver's license, please?

Tina02

Sure, here you are.

Clerk03

...Place of birth: "beyond the stars."

Tina04

That's right!

Frank05

It's a small town. Very small. Hard to find on a map.

Clerk06

As long as the license is valid. And it is. So — a small car for two days?

Tina07

Yes. How much is it per day?

Clerk08

Forty dollars a day, basic insurance included.

Great. Could I see the car before I decide?

Clerk10

Of course. This way, please. It's the blue one over there.

Tina11

Does it fly? Where I'm from—

Frank12

—Small town, Tina. We're going with "small town."

WORDS & CONTEXT

Words & context

“As long as the license is valid.”

As long as … introduces a condition, and valid means legally effective or acceptable. The clerk decides that even a birthplace beyond the stars is no problem if the license is valid.

“Where I'm from—”

Where I'm from ... introduces the customs or situation of your home: "Where I come from ..." Here Tina asks whether the car can fly and starts to talk about her home, and Frank cuts her off.

“We're going with "small town."”

Go with something is an informal way to say you choose or stick with it. Frank explained Tina's birthplace, "beyond the stars," as a small town. When Tina starts talking about flying cars and her home, he interrupts so the explanation does not fall apart: "We're sticking with 'small town.'"
