WORDS & CONTEXT

Words & context

“hanging out”

Hang out means to spend relaxed, unstructured time together. It commonly describes casually spending time with friends, without necessarily going anywhere.

“I'm obsessed.”

Obsessed literally suggests being consumed by something, but conversation often uses it lightly to mean very enthusiastic or completely hooked. The pattern I'm obsessed with … is also common.

“You didn't hear that.”

Although literally a statement about what someone heard, You didn't hear that. asks them to pretend they did not hear it. Embarrassed at admitting he cried, Frank quickly tries to cover it up.
