Narrator

Frank has accompanied an older researcher from his lab to a knee appointment. The doctor is about to explain a procedure. The researcher has a conference trip coming up.

Researcher01

Frank, could you take notes? When I'm nervous, I forget the details.

Frank02

Of course. I'll write while you listen.

Doctor03

The procedure may ease your knee pain. You'd need rehabilitation afterward. We could schedule it next week.

Researcher04

I'm speaking in Lisbon in six weeks. Could we wait until afterward?

Doctor05

Yes, but you'd be traveling with your knee as it is now.

Researcher06

Would having it next week mean I'd recover before the trip?

Doctor07

Not necessarily. We'd need to check whether you've recovered enough to travel before you go.

Frank08

Let me make sure I've got this. Earlier gives recovery time, but travel isn't guaranteed. Waiting means traveling with the sore knee. Right?

Doctor09

Exactly. We'd have to assess your recovery, rather than simply count the weeks.

Researcher10

Could I take some information home about the risks and alternatives before deciding?

Doctor11

Of course. Take this handout home. We'll discuss any questions before you decide.

Frank12

One page of notes. I'll add a table of contents.

Doctor13

A table of contents? For one page?
