WORDS & CONTEXT

Words & context

“How do I check this one out?”

At a library, check something out means to borrow it through the lending procedure. In other contexts it can mean to investigate or look at something, as in Check this out!, or to leave a hotel. The setting determines the meaning. Here Frank asks how to borrow this book.
