Words & context

“stitches”

Stitches are the marks left where a wound has been sewn together after an injury or operation. The Japanese word for “seams” here refers to these marks on Frank's face and body, rather than seams in clothing. They appear repeatedly as one of his distinctive features throughout the series.

“Friends? Yes? Yes?”

Friends? is short for Can we be friends?, spoken with a rising tone. By immediately adding Yes? Yes?, Tina eagerly pushes for an answer, showing her childlike innocence. The sense is “Let's be friends? Please? Please?”
