Narrator

Tina shows Frank last night's post about a team meeting. Two colleagues have responded. She's asking his advice at a café before changing it.

Tina01

I need to fix my post from last night. Or delete it. Frank, help.

Frank02

What did you write, exactly?

Tina03

"Survived another team meeting. Thoughts and prayers." With a photo of my coffee.

Frank04

How did your colleagues react?

Tina05

One said it felt dismissive — she'd spent three weeks planning that meeting. The other said she laughed, but it read like a complaint.

Frank06

Then I can see why she was hurt. She put in all that work, and your post made the meeting sound like something to survive.

Tina07

I know. People shared some good ideas at the meeting. I was just exhausted. I meant to be funny, but I made her work sound pointless.

Frank08

So what would help? Delete it, edit it, or add an explanation?

Tina09

If I delete it, it looks like I'm hiding. If I leave it, it keeps stinging her.

Frank10

Then edit it, but say why. Keep the coffee photo. Make the joke about your tiredness.

Tina11

"Edited: my joke was unfair to the team. Yesterday's meeting had great ideas. I needed more coffee." ...Better?

Frank12

Much better. You're admitting the mistake. And the joke is about your tiredness, not her work.

Tina13

And I'll message her directly to apologize. An actual apology. Not "thoughts and prayers."

WORDS & CONTEXT

Words & context

“Thoughts and prayers.”

Thoughts and prayers expresses sympathy for people affected by tragedy. American politicians and public figures often use it after disasters or violent events, but it is also satirized as sympathy without concrete action. Tina exaggerates a meeting into a disaster she survived. The final Not "thoughts and prayers." returns to the phrase: she needs a real apology rather than a hollow formula.

“it felt dismissive”

Dismissive means treating someone's concerns or value as unimportant. Even without malicious intent, words can seem to belittle someone's effort. The colleague feels that Tina's post treats a meeting she spent three weeks preparing as a disaster to survive.
