Frank has a job interview at a research institute. At home, he's practicing with Tina, who's playing the interviewer.
Frank Stein? Thanks for coming in. It's nice to meet you.
It's nice to meet you, too. Thank you for having me.
Could you tell me about yourself?
I'm a researcher at a university lab. I've spent the last few years—
Can I stop you there? Try starting with what interests you about your research.
Let me finish—that's where I was going. ...studying how to help night-shift workers sleep better.
Fair enough—I jumped in too soon. Next question: tell me about a mistake you made at work.
In a puzzle study, my instructions had no time limit. One student kept going for four hours.
What did you change, and what did you learn?
I added a thirty-minute limit. Now I check that volunteers understand the instructions, rather than assuming they do.
Good. Use that example. Explain the problem, what you changed, and what you learned.
Let's try the introduction again. Will you let me finish this time?
Deal. Unless your introduction takes four hours.
